Claudia Joskowicz works with film, video, installation and photography. The landscape, the city and the urban space are the main protagonists in her work, highlighting the role that the media plays in the construction of history and its narrative and how they shape collective memory, contemporary history and social realities. Through slow video sequences, and oscillating between cinema and photography, Joskowicz reproduces “myth-historical” events present in the global collective memory, personal stories that have a historical dimension, or alluding to iconic pieces of art. Her early videos are minimalist recreations – with an eye for subtle gestures and movements of the figure and landscape – and in recent years, cinematic representations where political dramas unfold in real time.
