Guillaume Cabantous

Paris, France
1977

The works of Guillaume Cabantous are made with car windshields, as iconic consumer objects; They present a dramatic effect present in the way the materials are used, transforming the rigid into flexible, sculpting the glass by hitting it, breaking it and generating tensions with scaffolding, iron or aged wooden beams. The poverty of the materials reminds us of Arte Povera but loaded with speed, in an updated context, contemporized after a carefully studied gesture, the result of rigorous work that, however, seems spontaneous, working with the accident, from its movement or its nature to its reactions, nothing is left to chance, it plays with the material to confuse us in an illusion of lightness and flexibility.
